Working with an injury

It happens to everyone, pulled muscles, extra stress putting strain on your muscles- we all have days when our body gives us no choice but to take it easy. I encountered one of those days yesterday. Having aggravated my hamstring attachment (not doing yoga) I found there were very few poses that I didn't need to modify in order not to feel pain. While my body is telling me to take it easy my mind is talking over my other shoulder telling that I should be able to do these poses, bend deeper, fold more because I could do it yesterday.

One of the beauties of yoga is it can be a sort of microcosm of our entire lives. The challenges we face on our yoga mat can show us how we react to difficult situations, how we react when our bodies tell us one thing and our minds another. The practice of yoga can help reconcile the differences between our bodies and our minds and while they may not always be in perfect agreement, they can work together.

So- my practice until my hamstring is healed- work with where I am now- not where I was yesterday. By keeping my focus now, maybe my mind will be willing to work with my body.
