Practicing in the rain

I have always liked the rain, and since I don't get much of it here in Los Angeles I try to enjoy it whenever it is with us (which it has been all week, including some lightning and thunder and hail!).  I enjoy the quiet that it brings to everything, the world seems to slow down a little bit, there is time to eat good soup and read books and get cozy on the couch while the rain pelts the windows.  It is possible however to totally give in to the darkness and that is when the winter blues, or a just a feeling a bit low can start to sink in.

Check in with your practice.  There are certain things your body might not want to do and other things it craves (like Savasana) but I find that building a little heat and sticking with some of the things your body wants to resist (not the point of injury) might just brighten your mood when the sun isn't around.

So, when you at home on your couch and find you have a few minutes to move, try a few bridge poses or gentle backbends and simple twist.  I guarantee that is will bring a little sunshine to your day.
