Creating consistency in your practice

Some days it is so tempting to take a nap rather than go to class.  I feel you- sometimes getting on the mat feels like the hardest thing in the world.  BUT- most of the time (and there are days that you really should rest, sickness, injury, etc) you will feel better at the end of your practice than you did at the beginning.

Along with knowing you will feel better if you get on your mat you also begin to create a habit of going to your mat whether or not you think you want to.  You are creating a discipline and moving deeper into your practice.  The practice of yoga isn't just there for us when we feel great- it can be an amazing tool when we are moving through challenging times.

Your practice can become your refuge and when if feels like everything else is falling apart the steady rhythm of your breathe can be incredibly healing and calming.  There have been times in my life when it has been challenging to get out of bed, my practice was my anchor, my home, the one place I could go to where I could be alone with my thoughts.

So don't just take my word for it, try it out for yourself.  Challenge yourself to stick to your regular practice for a set amount of time each week.  Even if you feel that you don't have time or would prefer to eat chocolate stick with your commitment and roll out your mat.  At home, at the studio, anywhere you can.  Try it for 3 weeks, then 4, then 5...  the sustained practice of yoga is where the real transformation lies.

With devoted practice in these aspects of Yoga, impurities and
obstacles are eliminated and true wisdom in its essence shines.

Peace and light.
