Description
Ashtanga Yoga, as taught in the tradition of K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, South India, is a refined highly evolved method of yoga practice. Postures are linked one to the next with a series of movements derived from the sun salutation. These movements are initiated, propelled and woven together by smooth, deep breathing. Heat is rapidly produced from the inside out, cleansing and clearing the way for a deeper experience of yoga. Consistent, regular practice will lead to rapid progress, developing flexibility, strength, stamina, and balance. The fluid nature of this practice creates a calm and focused mind, leaving you with a feeling of deep purification, completion, and peace.
This course is ideal for the student interested in the Ashtanga method and for Ashtanga students interested in refining and further developing their practice. Students should have a basic understanding of sun salutations and standing poses.
Sonya Cottle began practicing yoga in 1999 and discovered Ashtanga yoga with Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty in 2000. Since then, she has become a dedicated practitioner of the ancient method, linking breath with movement. Through her daily asana practice Sonya has learned to focus her mind as well as tap into an inner strength and peace that no other type of yoga has given her. She believes the practice is the ultimate tool for observation and feels privileged to be able to share her love of Ashtanga with others. In October of 2006 she took her first trip to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and is very much looking forward to returning again soon.
