February Pose of the month: Bakasana!

New month, new pose to focus on.  This month is a fun arm balance to lift ourselves out of the depths of winter.  Spring is on its way!

If you are not familiar with this pose it can be a little tricky at first, but all it takes is practice and soon you will be flying.

Here is how I like to come into the pose:
- Start in a squat, up on your toes with your big toes touching and knees apart.
- Bring your knees to your shoulders, that involves crunching up into a tiny ball and rounding your spine but once you get in there lift your chest and shift your gaze forward.  If you look down you will go down, if you look out you have more power to lift up.
- With your hands flat on the floor and upper arms parallel (firm in your triceps), squeeze your knees into your shoulders and put your weight into your hands.
- With you weight in your hands and your belly engaged shift the weight even more forward to bring all the weight out of your feet and then you lift your feet to bring your heels towards your buttocks.
- Take a few breathes and then come out of it.

- MOST IMPORTANT:  Breathe and have fun

Happy February everyone!

  1. Hi there. I’m so glad you posted something on bakasana. Leeann Carey, an amazing yoga teacher, says that it's a great upper body strengthener. She has a free yoga video on this that I think your readers might like: http://planetyoga.com/yoga-blogs/index.php/free-yoga-video-breakdown-of-bakasana-crane-pose/
