Feb 13-19: Happy V-Day


Aww, Valentine's Day- love it or hate it- there it is- pink and red hearts in every window and cards and balloons spouting love every time you walk down the street.  Having been anti V-day for most of my life I have to say it become a bit of a neutral holiday for me- I could take it or leave it but I do always like to take a little extra time to enjoy the heart opening effects of my yoga practice the week surrounding it.  The practice of yoga in itself is a heart opening practice, building compassion for ourselves and the world around us, and there are certain poses that can help us nurture that side of us even more- backbends such as Urdhva Dhanurasana and Ustrasana give us the chance to open our hearts to the world while sitting quietly in meditation gives us the chance be still with our own hearts. When you come to your mat this week take the time to listen to what your heart is telling you and give yourself credit for where you are and how far you have come.  You are exactly where you need to be.
